Honduras Mission

Our mission in Honduras started in 1998.  Honduras was devasted by Hurricane Mitch.  Over 5600 people were killed and over $2 billion in damages sustained.  As a result of this devastation, the Diocese of Fort Worth and Juticalpa, Honduras, formed a covenant partnership focused on humanitarian assistance and rebuilding.  There are now eight parishes in the Fort Worth Diocese assisting in this Mission.

Prayer
Gentle and loving God, help us to use our humanity and faith as a golden thread uniting our hearts and hands as we journey together.  Send us your Spirit to guide us on this journey.  Grant us the strength to continue our loving bond.
Honduras Donations

Donations to support the Honduras Mission effort are welcome.   Donate now or drop off  your check payable to Good Shepherd with "Honduras" written in the memo section of the check to the parish office.
THANK YOU!

Youth Mission Trip

Our youth visits Honduras to experience firsthand  a way of life that is substantially different than anything they have ever seen. Despite the extremely high poverty level, the youth see a culture where the people are unconditionally generous with everything they have.  As a result, an inspirational bond is created between the youth of our parish and the students which leaves a lasting memory of  the great work that God’s disciples are accomplishing at the Honduras.

Project Rescue

The Honduras Trade School focuses on several social projects which further the work of our Lord in their community.  Project Rescue focuses on handicapped children.  As is the case in many developing countries, lack of education is the central reason why these children are treated as outcasts.  In 2008, the Trade School identified over 100 handicapped children in the community.  Project Rescue currently provides assistance to 12 of these children on a day-to-day basis, and also provides assistance to the families to cope with the challenges that accompany raising a child with disabilities.  The program is a great success in the community and demonstrates the helping hand of our Lord to those who truly are less fortunate.

Water Purification Project

The Honduras Trade School focuses on several projects which further the work of our Lord in their community.  The Water Purification Project produces and delivers 1,000s of gallons of affordable and clean drinking water to the people of Juticalpa Diocese.  The school could produce significantly more purified water each day but lacks the ability to deliver more water to the community because of transportation issues.  Over the next few years, we will focus our efforts on providing the school with an additional trailer and truck to increase this service.  The Water Purification Project has single handedly helped to reduce the infant mortality rate by 50%.

Please include the children of the Honduras Trade School in your prayers.  The power of prayer achieves enormous results.  Please contact the parish office if you are interested in participating in this ministry.
