Adult Faith Formation: This ministry team enables people to grow in the life of Christ through experience, reflection, prayer and study. We strive to build an adult Christian Community that is intentional, inviting, promotes active involvement in the life church and calls forth the spirit of mission and discipleship to the world.
Family Faith Formation: This ministry focuses on religious education for the youth of our parish. It involves teaching our children about the beliefs and values of the Catholic Church and focuses on eight areas: Prayer and Worship, Catechesis; Advocacy, Community, Evangelism, Justice and Service and Leadership Development.
Only registered Good Shepherd parishioner can participate in Family Faith Formation programs. Good Shepherd offers variety of faith formation options for children from 1- to 12-years-old.
· Childcare : For 1- to 2-year-olds, we offer childcare during Sunday Masses and for many parish events. While children can be dropped off for Sunday Masses with reservation, RSVPS are required a week in advance for all other parish events that childcare is offered.
· Program for 3-year-olds: Offered during Sunday Masses from September through April, this ministry provides a formalized program that includes an abbreviated religious lesson, prayers, crafts, music, and structured play time.
· Program for 4- and 5-year-olds: Offered during Sunday Masses from September through April, this ministry offers a formalized program with full lessons on how to live as Christians and build a relationship with Jesus. Classes consist of stories, workbook study, discussion time, skits, games, crafts, and prayer development; all focuses on the topic of the week.
· Kindergarten to 5th Grade Program: Classes are offered from September through April and conducted in three ways:
1. At Good Shepherd on Sundays and Wednesdays;
2. In the homes of volunteer teachers at the teachers’ convenience; and
3. At the student’s home through the Home Study Program. Some families choose to instruct their children in the faith within their own family. Parents are asked to attend an orientation session to become familiar with the curriculum. They then receive materials to work independently with their children. Families who choose this option also bring their children to the large group, grade-level gatherings offered during the school year at the Parish.
Parish Finance Council: This is an advisory body that meets bimonthly to assist the pastor. Council members with experience in business, finances or economics are appointees of the pastor. This council advises the pastor on all financial matters: audits the monthly parish accounts, approves the annual parish budgets, and reports on finance meetings at Holy Trinity Catholic School. Council members also advise the pastor on cash-flow needs and our savings account, proposed maintenance projects, site development projects and capital expenditure projects, whether short or long-term. We provide direction regarding financial stewardship of the parish as well as diocesan and parish financial campaigns. Decisions are reserved to the Pastor.
Little Lambs Early Childhood Program (for 2- to 4-year-olds): As part of GSCC’s Early Childhood Program, Little Lambs seeks to enrich the academic opportunities for 2- to 4-year-olds through various teaching techniques. It provides an educational and spiritual environment where all children can learn at their appropriate developmental level. Liturgy & Rites: The Liturgy of the Catholic Church includes the celebration of the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist (Mass), the seven Sacraments, and the Liturgy of the Hours (daily prayer). Rites are the distinctive theology, spirituality and law by which the Church properly guides the exercise of liturgy. Liturgy is the font and summit of our Christian life, communal prayer to God in the Spirit through Christ that celebrates the paschal mystery of his life, death and resurrection. It is an exercise of the priestly office of Jesus Christ, head and members, for the glory of God and the sanctification of all. Responsibility for the Liturgy rests with the pastor of a parish in communion with the bishop of the diocese. Deacons and lay ecclesial ministers collaborate and facilitate.
Parish Pastoral Advisory Council:This is an advisory body that meets bimonthly to assist the pastor. Council members provide consultation through prayer, study, dialogue, discipline and discernment under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Mindful of our Parish Mission Statement, we actively listen to the needs of parishioners and share our wisdom at Council meetings. Council members plan and sponsor an annual “Town Hall Meeting” in February to hear the concerns from our Catholic Community regarding the areas of Spirituality, Family Faith Formation and Education, Pastoral Care, Social Initiatives, Facilities and Campus Environment, and Communications in our Parish. The focus is on the future, assessing these needs and developing plans to meet those needs.
Student Life Ministry (7th-12th Grades): Student life connects our 7-12th grade students to each other, to Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. Our students experience relevant teaching along with powerful experiences that are created to inspire and engage. Student Life helps our teens navigate through their every day challenges by providing community, catechesis, service, leadership, prayer, and evangelization. Grades 7 and 8 meet on Sunday evenings during the school year, while 9th through 12th graders meet on Wednesday evenings during the school year. GSCC parishioners in our Confirmation program are expected to be involved in the Student Life ministry.
