For baptisms outside of Mass, a baptismal assistant assists the priest, deacon, and families in attendance. This includes welcoming families and giving instruction, as well as preparing the needed supplies. The assistant makes announcements to the group as needed. After the baptism, the assistant ensures everything is put away.
